He appears to express extremely heavy topics surrounding loss of identities. I find this powerful as he personifies the issues. He does this through dreary, dark tones and smudgy smeary marks either overlaying the image to create layers of colour, or using lighter tones to make it seem as though there are sections missing from the portrait as seen in the rape of everything decent.

This is effective in creating a cathartic atmosphere of distress within the portrait to make the issue more explicit. This is an extremely harrowing portrait displaying a broad shouldered man being strangled or manhandled by three individual grubby hands. The title infers that the main subject is being harmed by his memories which is perhaps what Cambria is visualising through hands from the past strangling him.

Strangling restricts the airways for breathing which may suggest that the horrible memories the subject has are killing him. Cambria has used a blood red jacket to clothe his subject. Red resembles blood and pain, danger and death as well as love. This could represent the emotions that are harassing the subject. Cambria has created a cluster of smudgy grey paint strokes upon the subjects face.

This could represent suffocation or loss of identity as they cover his face where inner emotions are expressed. The grey is bleak and implicates a lack of life. Check back soon. Artist: Chad Mcail.
